In the mean time from 1979 to 1997 he played for Singapore National Football Team. After retirement in 1997, Fandi became the head coach for his team. In his career, he played 55 matches in total. In fact, due to the popularity of the player, Madame Tussauds Museum unveiled a wax figure of Fandi.
