He was born on 26 April 1940 in Singapore, Straits Settlements to a Hokkien-speaking family. Tan Cheng Bock was educated at Radin Mas Primary School and Raffles Institution and after that, he going to the University of Singapore where he completed his graduation with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in the year 1968. Tan Cheng Bock has been the medical director of Ama Keng Medical Clinic established in Jurong since 1971. Tan Cheng Bock came into politics in the year 1980 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament in general election. After that, he won every election and become MP for many years. Tan Cheng Bock won many awards for his services and facilities which they provide to the public.
