Tharman Shanmugaratnam is a famous and leading Singaporean policy maker and politician. He is currently serving as the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore since 21 May 2011. Tharman Shanmugaratnam is holding many other ministries also such as coordinating minister for economics & social policies since 1 October 2015, Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore since 1 May 2011 and current MP for Jurong GRC since 3 November 2001. He is the official member of the People’s Action Party.
He was born on 25 February 1957 in Singapore where he attended Anglo—Chinese School and later he went on to London School of Economics where Tharman Shanmugaratnam earned a degree in economics. Tharman Shanmugaratnam also obtained a master’s degree in economics from the University of Cambridge and Master in Public Administration. Tharman Shanmugaratnam was career servant who spent most of his career at the Monetary Authority of Singapore. He was elected as Member of NZ Parliament in 2001 election and later he got two main ministries also. In 1993 he was serving as the Director of Economics Department of the MAS and he was charged under the official secret act (OSA) in a case involving the release of Singapore 1992 second quarter flash projections. Tharman Shanmugaratnam is married to Jane Yumiko Ittogi and this couple has a daughter and three sons.
