Yip Pin Xiu is a well-known and popular Singaporean backstroke swimmer. She is young and talented 25 years old freestyle and backstroke swimmer from Singapore who is a onetime IPC gold medalist. Yip Pin Xiu is a three-time Paralympic gold medalist. She has a muscular dystrophy and competes in the S3 category for the physically impaired.
She was born on 10 January 1992 with muscular dystrophy. Yip Pin Xiu started swimming at the age of just 5. She studied in Ai Tong Primary School and Bendemeer Secondary School and then graduated from the Republic Polytechnic. Yip Pin Xiu started her swimming competitively when she was just 12 years old. After losing her ability to kick, she switched to the backstroke from the front crawl. After getting success in national & local championships, Yip Pin Xiu participated in Asia Paralympics Swimming Championship 2005 and winning two gold medals. She has received the honor of Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Meritious Service Medal). Recently, she took to participate in 2016 Summer Paralympics and won the gold medal. Yip Pin Xiu has a huge fan following in entire Singapore and worldwide.
